The Creative School

All applicants interested in joining any of the Faculty’s offered programs must fulfill the below requirements:

English Language

English Language Proficiency Requirements
All applicants must provide a satisfactory English language proficiency test score unless they have completed four years of full-time study at the high school level in a country where English is the first language, or in a school where English is the primary language of instruction.

Requirements reflect overall scores. There are no minimum requirements for band scores (e.g. reading, writing, speaking, listening). All applicants, including those who must submit proof of English language proficiency, are required to present a senior-level English course. Other Acceptable Qualifications Requirements for All Programs
Advanced Placement (AP) College Board Examination English Language and Composition or Literature and Composition with a final grade of 4 or better.
GCSE/IGCSE/GCE/AICE English courses A minimum final grade of B/6 in GCSE/IGCSE/GCE Ordinary Level English, English Language, or English as a Second Language; OR a minimum final or predicted grade of “C” in GCE A Level/AS Level/AICE English or English Language
International Baccalaureate English A minimum score of 4 (predicted or final) in Higher or Standard Level English A: Literature, or English A: Language and Literature. HL English B is not acceptable

Academic Requirements

The complete academic record of all secondary and post-secondary studies (e.g. college, university) is considered as part of the competitive selection process unless otherwise noted. The possession of the minimum requirements in no way guarantees acceptance. Due to competition, candidates may be required to present averages/grades above the minimum(s).

American High School Diploma
High school graduation from an accredited secondary school, including 12 years of study. The high school profile (including accreditation, grading scheme, etc.) must accompany the academic record. While TMU does not have minimum SAT or ACT score requirements, strong performance on a standardized test can strengthen an application.

Fashion, Media Production, Sport Media:

  • Overall average: B average (school grading scale) in at least 5 academic courses in the final year.
  • Prerequisite subject requirement: B grade (school grading scale) in Grade 12 English (Honors or AP preferred).

Interior Design:

  • Overall average: B average (school grading scale) in at least 5 academic courses in the final year.
  • Prerequisite subject requirements: B average (school grading scale) in Grade 12 English, Grade 11 or 12 Mathematics and any of Grade 12 Visual Arts, Humanities, Social Science or Physics courses (this may include Fine Arts, Geography, History, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Philosophy, etc.)

Canadian/Provincial High School Diploma
Applicants who have been educated in a Canadian province and/or territory outside of Ontario, must submit evidence of education equivalent to the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six Grade 12 U or M courses. Unless noted otherwise, subject prerequisite grades required for admission are determined on the basis of competition. Calculus is required for all Engineering programs. TMU considers all Grade 11 final marks and Grade 12 interim/final marks in our assessment (where applicable).

Alberta

High school diploma with five academic Grade 12 courses numbered 30 or 31, each with a value of five credits. Two academic three-credit courses may be used to replace one five-credit course. A maximum of two three-credit courses may be used in the calculation of an overall average.

  • Overall average: 70% or higher in five academic Grade 12 courses numbered 30 or 31.

British Columbia

High school diploma with five academic Grade 12 courses. Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses will be considered where presented.

  • Prerequisite subject requirement: Grade of B or higher in English Studies 12 or English 12 First Peoples (Literary Studies 12 is acceptable for Fashion).

Twelve academic courses from a Diplôme d’Etudes Collègiales (DEC)/pre-university program of study.

  • Overall average: 70% or higher in twelve academic courses.
  • Prerequisite subject requirement: 70% or higher in two English courses (603 or 604).

Interior Design:
  • Overall average: 70% or higher in twelve academic courses
  • Prerequisite subject requirements: Grade of 70% or higher in two English courses (603 or 604), Grade of 70% or higher in one of: Secondary V Math 506 (TS or SN) or CEGEP Calculus I (201-NYA or 201-103) or Linear Algebra I (201-NYC or 201-105 or 201-106). Other pre-university CEGEP math courses may also be considered on an individual basis and Grade of 70% or higher in two CEGEP courses in Art, Art History, Physics, History, World Issues, Economics, or other acceptable social science or humanities courses.

French Baccalaureate
Baccalauréat/Baccalauréat Général/Option Internationale du Baccalauréat/Diplôme de Bachelier de l’Enseignement du Second Degré. Applicants will be considered for admission on their ‘bulletins’ (with results out of 20) in première and terminale or, if already completed, on their final Baccalauréat results.

General Certificate of Education (GCE/IGCSE)

Fashion, Media Production, Sport Media:

  • Combination of a minimum of five (5) courses, including A Level or AS Level and O Level courses in different subject areas, with a minimum final grade of C. With the fulfillment of the prerequisite requirements of English.

Interior Design:

  • Combination of a minimum of five (5) courses, including A Level or AS Level and O Level courses in different subject areas, with a minimum final grade of C.
  • Prerequisite subject requirements: English with a grade of B/6 or higher is required at the GCSE/IGCSE/O Level or A Level, Mathematics with a grade of C/4 or higher is required at the GCSE/IGCSE/O Level or A Level and One of Visual Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences or Physics with a grade of C/4 or higher is required at the GCSE/IGCSE/O Level or A Level. International Baccalaureate (IB)
International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma with grades of 4 or higher in three Higher Level and three Standard Level subjects, including prerequisite subjects. Bonus points will be accepted in the calculation of the overall score. Applicants must provide predicted results from their school (bonus points will not be considered during our assessment of predicted results). The IB Certificate and IB Career-related Programme (IBCP) cannot be used in lieu of the high school diploma requirement.

In addition to meeting the academic requirements, you are required to submit the following non-academic requirements.

Fashion

In addition to meeting competitive academic requirements, you are required to submit the non-academic requirements (NAR) in the form of a portfolio and statement of intent. Your ability to follow and adhere to the requirements is an important part of the overall assessment of your application.

Consultation Workshops
You are strongly encouraged to participate in a set of consultation workshops (in-person or virtually) that outline the successful submission of NARs. The first workshop will focus on general tips how to approach the composition of an NAR for The Creative School. Feel free to bring any material you may already have to share with our workshop leaders for feedback. The second workshop will focus on providing you with specific feedback on components of the NAR you have worked on since the first workshop. You will have a one-on-one consultation with one of our instructors of the specific program to which you plan to submit your NAR. In recognition of your participation, you will receive a Certificate of Achievement after the successful completion of a set of consultation workshops.

The sets of consultation workshops are scheduled as follows:

Set A: March 11 and 18

Set B: May 6 and 13

You will be notified which set of sessions you will be invited to attend.

Your non-academic requirements are due 10 business days from your submission invitation date, or successful completion of the set of Consultation Workshops to which you have been invited, whichever comes later.

Incomplete NARs will not be accepted.

NAR Components

Portfolio

The portfolio is an essential part of your application and it represents an opportunity to display your creativity, exploratory research and technical skills. It is the place to showcase your concepts and critical thinking and express your interest in Fashion. Your portfolio contains a combination of visual and written work, including both process and finished pieces.

Four Portfolio Pieces:

Submit 4 finished pieces of your best creative work or samples of writing that display your skills and interest in Fashion. We really want to see how your ideas develop and so you are required to also submit process work along with the finished pieces to demonstrate the evolution of your ideas. Be sure to label your process work accordingly.

Your process may be demonstrated through:

  • sketching multiple concepts
  • material exploration
  • photos of work in progress
  • credited images of inspiration
  • notes and related research

Portfolio Categories

Some suggested portfolio items are listed below, but you may also choose to submit work that is not listed here. We suggest choosing multiple categories to represent your skills and creativity. If you choose to submit multiple items from the same category, show us different skills.
  1. Clothing & Accessories
  • Sewn Garment: From a commercial pattern or your original design
  • Creative Reuse: Upcycled garment or accessory
Note: Display your sewn garment or creative reuse on a dress form or body. Photograph front, back and detail views. Include a short description.

2. Graphic Design

  • Branding: Design a logo and advertisement using your original imagery and text
  • Social Media Campaign: Promote an idea through a social platform of your choice. Include graphics and a written description of your strategy

3. Fine Art

  • Traditional Art Media: Painting, printmaking, sculpture, etc.
  • Illustration/Drawing: Fashion figure and garment design, accessory, or product illustration
  • Photography: Abstract, editorial or product-focused

4. Accessory or Textile Design

  • Accessory Design: An illustration, computer rendering or photographs of a physical prototype of your design for jewelry, hat, purse, etc. Include a short description along with images showing the overall design and details
  • Textile Design: Your original block print, digital design, weaving, embroidery etc. Include a short description along with sketches, prints or photographs showing the overall design and details

5. Writing

  • Academic Writing: An essay demonstrating your skills in research and writing
  • Creative Writing: An example of fiction, non-fiction, or poetry
  • Fashion Journalism: An article you’ve written for a blog, print etc.

6. Fashion Business

  • New Business or Product Idea: Include a 1-2 page description and concept sketches or photos
  • Marketing Plan for a Fashion Brand: Include a 1-2 page description and concept sketches or photos

7. Fashion Event

  • Describe your role or contribution to a Fashion event that you planned, coordinated, or participated in. Include a 1-2 page description plus photographs and other related materials

8. Own Choice

  • The categories listed above are just suggestions. You are welcome to submit any work that represents your skills and creativity!
Note: Name all your Portfolio files using their “Portfolio Category”, i.e.: Clothing and Accessories, Graphic Design, Fine Art, Accessory or Textile Design, Writing, Fashion Business, Fashion Event, or Own Choice. To ensure coherence in your submission, organize your pages to show finished pieces first, then chronological process work. Please save your 4 portfolio pieces as 4 separate .pdf files.

Statement of Intent

Drawing upon your personal experiences, write a 500-word essay about:
  • Your interest in Fashion
  • Why you want to pursue a Bachelor of Design in Fashion
In your essay, consider an important issue affecting Fashion and its potential solutions, such as:
  • Cultural Appropriation
  • Diversity and Inclusion
  • Fashion Activism
  • Sustainability
  • Or any other issue of your choice

Do not submit NAR material until after you have submitted your application for admission. You will receive an email acknowledgment of your application that will include your Universities of Canada in Egypt (UCE) Student Number and instructions for uploading your documents via the application portal. Please include your UCE Student Number on all materials you submit.

Your NAR submission for Fashion must include the following:
  • Portfolio (4 separate .pdf files)
  • Statement of Intent (.pdf file)

NAR Components

Images + Text

Present a sequence or collection of 3-5 photographs of a space(s) that inspires you. Try to tell a story about the interior through the images, and show us how you see the qualities of the built environment. In 250 words or fewer, reflect on how and why the interior(s) chosen for your sequence inspires you. Please integrate the text and visuals best to reinforce their relationship. Arrange text and images in a way that best reinforces your idea. Write about how you see the space and why the space resonates with you. You should take all photos.

Note 1: Photographs must be original and taken by the applicant. Photographs taken by either a camera or a mobile phone are acceptable formats. [Do not use AI image and text generators].

Note 2: Expanded definitions of space (spatial): interiors and built environment that resonate.

Note 3: Rubrics: originality, composition, and creativity/passion.

In addition to meeting competitive academic requirements, you are required to submit the non-academic requirements (NAR) in the form of a resume, written response to Questions & Answers, and an interview. Your ability to follow and adhere to the requirements is an important part of the overall assessment of your application.

Consultation Workshops
You are strongly encouraged to participate in a set of consultation workshops (in-person or virtually) that outline the successful submission of NARs. The first workshop will focus on general tips on how to approach the composition of a NAR for The Creative School. Feel free to bring any material you may already have to share with our workshop leaders for feedback. The second workshop will focus on providing you with specific feedback on components of the NAR you have worked on since the first workshop. You will have a one-on-one consultation with one of our instructors of the specific program to which you plan to submit your NAR. In recognition of your participation, you will receive a Certificate of Achievement after the successful completion of a set of consultation workshops.

The sets of consultation workshops are scheduled as follows:

Set A: March 11 and 18

Set B: May 6 and 13

You will be notified which set of sessions you will be invited to attend.

Your non-academic requirements are due 10 business days from your submission invitation date, or successful completion of the set of Consultation Workshops to which you have been invited, whichever comes later.

Incomplete NARs will not be accepted.

Resume

Prepare a current resume/curriculum vitae highlighting education, work experience, volunteer experience, and extracurricular activities. Please save your resume as a .pdf file.

Questions & Answers

Please answer BOTH of the following questions in a thoughtful, reflective and compelling manner, strictly limiting your response for each to the word count specified.
  1. Provide a personal statement as to why you have chosen Media Production and explain what you have done that demonstrates why you are a good candidate for this program. Please include your areas of interest and where you see yourself working after graduating from the Media Production program. (300 words)
  2. Choose your favorite media production (e.g., a television show, film, song/album, podcast, radio show, play, video game, or any other creative product) and describe what makes it compelling for you and how you might adapt it to another media platform. (500 words)


Please ensure that your responses to the above questions are submitted as a single .pdf file.

Interview

After the assessment of the above materials, you will be informed if you have been chosen to participate in the interview stage of our admission selection process. Interviews may occur via Zoom or in-person. Interviews are normally scheduled within 2 weeks of submission of your NAR.

Please note there will be a short answer written component of the interview.
Submission Instructions
Do not submit NAR material until after you have submitted your application for admission. You will receive an email acknowledgment of your application that will include your Universities of Canada in Egypt (UCE) Student Number and instructions for uploading your documents via the application portal. Please include your UCE Student Number on all materials you submit.

Your NAR submission for Media Production must include the following:

  • Resume (.pdf file)
  • Questions & Answers (.pdf file)

Disclaimer

  • All work must be your own.
  • AI image and text generators are NOT considered original work
  • Visual work should be carefully photographed or scanned and prepared
  • Written work should be carefully proofread
  • Portfolio submissions will be assessed on their originality, creativity, passion, composition, level of complexity, technical proficiency and neatness
  • Non-academic requirements including portfolios are only accepted online. No physical submissions will be accepted
  • Ensure that you have followed all guidelines
  • Only complete submissions will be accepted and reviewed
  • You will not be permitted to re-submit updated, missing or incomplete work

Your non-academic submission will be retained by the TMU Cairo Campus for the purpose of verifying authenticity. Upon admission and registration in the program, if any element of the Questions & Answers is found to be plagiarized (not wholly your own), your admission/registration in the program will be canceled.

Sport Media

The Sport Media program does NOT require the submission of non-academic requirements.

Transcript/Document Submission Instructions

You are personally responsible for the submission of both secondary and all post-secondary school academic transcripts, regardless of the date of completion and the country of origin. You should make all the necessary arrangements for submission of required transcripts at the time of application to ensure documents are received by applicable deadlines.

Academic studies required for admission must be completed or in progress at the time of application. Transcripts must show the individual marks or grades achieved in each course or subject taken, as well as the diploma/degree awarded (if applicable).

If your documents are in a language other than English, you must provide the documents in the original language, as well as certified/notarized literal English translations.
